First let me say, there is no such thing as safe ice, but with that said, you need to remember some ice is safer than others.  Just as when the ice is forming, there are different densities of ice during the melting of ice out.  You need to be familiar with the type of water that you are on and stay aware of the ever-changing ice conditions.  The thicker ice lakes should still be fishable for this week. 





​Panfish: Bluegills are being found in the shallow green weeds using small jigs tipped with waxies, spikes or tipped with plastic.  Perch are being caught on the deeper green weed edge. With the warm warmer temperatures, Crappies are starting to move into the shallows.

April showers may bring May flowers, but I’m pretty sure this recent snowfall wasn’t what Mother Nature really meant.  The deep snow continues to make travel difficult without a track machine and with the temperatures predicted to keep rising again during the day it will knock the snow down. 

Keep in mind that the depth of ice varies greatly depending on the body of water.  It ranges from open flowing water on the river to several feet of ice on some area lakes.  With all the extra snow, keep in mind that you’ll probably need your extension put on your auger to get through the deep snow and thick ice.
