After you’ve finished prepping your open water gear and have it “nestled all snug in their beds”, next you have time to re-pack your tip-ups and get new line on them. Ice fishing rods also need new line to be ready to go. For your jigging rods and reels, you probably should think about putting on new line and match the line, rod and reel for select species. I use 2# ice line for Perch and Bluegills and 8# for Walleyes and Northern Pike.
Freshen up your batteries in your hand-held GPS, charge your batteries for your locator or flasher unit, and get your ice auger and the snowmobile or four-wheeler serviced and ready to go. If you have prepared your equipment ahead of fishing, then you should have a trouble-free day on the ice.
